Tea vs Coffee: A Morning Battle

Which side are you on?

While tea and coffee couldn’t be any more different, they are an integral part of our daily lives. At Jason Winters, we will be doing a multi part series on the pros and cons of each beverage.

The Scoop on Coffee

This aromatic brew is for many the best part of waking up. And this is mostly because the drink has ample amounts of caffeine. When it enters your system, caffeine can help stave off fatigue and increase motivation. As well, research suggests that coffee may lower the risk of liver cancer, colon cancer, Parkinson’s disease, type II diabetes, and even gout. But be wary, caffeine is a drug and way too much of it could result in increased anxiety, tachycardia, insomnia and nausea. Some studies also suggest that it can be responsible for raising cholesterol.

The Story on Tea

Tea is a drink with a complexity of flavor that is only rivaled by its popularity. Did you know that it is the most widely consumed beverage on Earth? In fact, it’s only beaten out by water! And there’s a reason for that: Tea has an incredible variety of tastes, textures and aromas and is also chocked full of antioxidants, which are polyphenol compounds that can aid in cancer prevention. These compounds contain free radicals that might protect cells from DNA damage. As well, drinking tea can aid with weight control: green tea has thermogenic properties that can help with fat oxidation and white tea has been found to inhibit the growth of new fat cells.

The Battle of the Beverages

As you can see, the battle has only just begun! Both drinks have their own unique benefits and flavor profiles. But no matter what side you’re on, we want to make sure you continue to enjoy your morning coffee or meditative tea session.

Something that, as humans, we have been doing for thousands of years.
