It might surprise most people to learn that sugar can be just as addictive as nicotine, cocaine, methamphetamine, or heroin, and it can pose almost as many challenges for those who want to quit.
Some of the potential adverse health implications of too much sugar in our daily diet include:
- Obesity and Weight Gain – High sugar content contributes to excess calorie intake, leading to weight gain and obesity.
- Dental Issues – Excess sugar consumption is a primary cause of dental cavities and gum diseases.
- Poor Nutrition – Sugar-laden foods often lack essential nutrients, causing nutrient deficiencies.
- Cardiovascular Disease – High sugar intake is associated with increased risk factors for heart diseases, including high blood pressure and high triglyceride levels.
- Type 2 Diabetes – Elevated blood sugar levels because of excessive consumption can lead to pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, and eventually, type 2 diabetes.
Taste and nutrition researcher Kerry recently conducted a survey across the globe, asking consumers in Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa, and Vietnam about sugar consumption.
According to Kerry’s “Sensibly Sweet” survey:
- 86% of respondents were concerned about the overconsumption of sugar.
- 70% wanted to cut their sugar intake to enjoy a better quality of life.
- 62% said they wanted to cut sugar to avoid potential health issues.
Many study participants said they didn’t care for artificial sweeteners over sugar and would instead opt for plant-based sweetening agents or honey if there was an option.
Cultural differences in taste preferences also played a role. For example, in Southeast Asia, good flavor comes from a balance between salty, sweet, and spicy.
People are now more conscious than ever about the dangers to health that too much sugar can cause. Health organizations and governments at every level have invested in campaigns to inform and raise awareness of consumers.
- Read the Label – Laws have been passed that require manufacturers to list not only ingredients but nutritional content. By making reading the label a habit, you can make better dietary choices.
- Choose Whole Foods – Consuming whole and unprocessed foods and choosing to prepare meals at home ensures that you know exactly what is going into what you eat.
- Avoid Sugary Drinks – Giving up sugary sodas or juices and drinking tea instead can go a long way to cutting down daily sugar intake.
Tea has become more popular than ever. Other than water, tea is the most consumed beverage in the world. If you want a healthier alternative to other pre-made drinks, tea can provide a much healthier alternative.
Besides the antioxidant properties found in tea, the catechins found in the Camelia sinensis or tea plant have shown the ability to boost metabolism and potentially aid in weight loss.
Herbal teas or teas containing natural flavors can offer a wide range of tastes that can provide a flavorful alternative to soft drinks or coffee-based beverages, often loaded with sugar.
Here at Sir Jason Winters International, we take great pride in the wide range of tea tastes that can provide a healthier alternative to sugary drinks and lessen sugar cravings.
If your tastebuds crave sweetness, our Peach Flavored Tea Bags with Stevia is a great place to start. As one of our original tea blends, it’s just the right amount of sweetness with no added sugar.
Our Royal Crest Peach Apricot Green Tea also features the goodness of peach, apricot and a slightly smoky, certified kosher, and gluten-free flavor. Right now, we are also offering a limited edition of our 12-count Peach Apricot Tea in a collector tin.
Another sweet favorite is our Raspberry Flavored Tea Bags with Stevia. The refreshing taste of raspberry is naturally flavored and sweetened with stevia, which gives you all the taste without the extra calories.
Cinnamon has a naturally sweet aroma, and when used in tea, that scent can sometimes fool our taste buds into registering it as sweet. Our Cinnamon Flavored Tea Bags with Stevia contain the goodness of Oolong tea flavored with Cinnamon, Indian Sage, Red Clover, our Herbalene Special Spice, natural flavors, and the calorie-free sweetness of stevia.
For those who like cinnamon but are looking for a more citrus flavor with black tea, Sir Jason Winters’ Royal Crest Orange Almond Black Tea combines these flavors with rose petals’ added scent delight. It’s a perfect start to your morning or any time of day.
Mint tea is one of the most refreshing tea options. It’s consumed throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Our Moroccan Mint Green Tea blends the tastes of both peppermint and spearmint for a cool respite any time of the year. We often used the taste of mint as a natural taste alternative to sugar and contains properties to aid digestion.
When looking to cut down on sugar, tea is an excellent alternative. Try any of our delicious, flavored teas, or try several to find out which taste is for you.
